When Is Men’s Mental Health Month and Why It Deserves More Attention

Men’s mental health is a topic that often flies under the radar, but it’s something we all need to talk about more openly. So if you’ve ever wondered when is Men’s Mental Health Month, the answer is June. This month is dedicated to raising awareness about the mental health challenges men face and encouraging them to speak up and seek help.

Why June?

June was chosen to shine a light on the unique struggles men encounter when it comes to mental well-being. Despite the growing awareness around mental health in general, many men still feel pressure to appear strong, silent, and stoic. These cultural expectations can lead to a dangerous silence, one where men are less likely to seek therapy, open up to loved ones, or even recognize the signs that something’s wrong.

By marking June as Men’s Mental Health Month, advocates and organizations hope to break down those walls and promote healthier conversations about emotions, stress, depression, anxiety, and suicide prevention.

The Stigma Still Exists

Even today, many men feel like they need to “tough it out” or “deal with it on their own.” This mindset can make it incredibly difficult to talk about struggles or ask for support. The result? Mental health issues in men are often underdiagnosed and untreated. The statistics are sobering. Men are less likely than women to seek help for depression, yet they are at a significantly higher risk of dying by suicide.

That’s why awareness months like this are so important. They open the door to honest discussions and help normalize the idea that mental health care is just as important as physical health care for everyone.

How You Can Support Men’s Mental Health

Men’s Mental Health Month isn’t just for men. It’s for all of us. Whether you’re a friend, partner, coworker, or family member, there are ways you can help:

  • Check in on the men in your life

  • Encourage open conversations without judgment

  • Learn the warning signs of depression and anxiety

  • Promote healthy coping strategies like therapy, exercise, and mindfulness

  • Share resources and helplines

Sometimes, a simple “How are you really doing?” can be the start of a life-changing conversation.

Let’s Keep the Conversation Going

So yes, Men’s Mental Health Month is in June, but the message shouldn’t be limited to just 30 days. Let’s carry that awareness into every month of the year. Mental health doesn’t follow a calendar, and neither should our support.

Together, we can help make it okay for men to talk about what they’re going through and remind them that they’re never alone.
