Medication can be an essential part of mental health treatment. Here’s a breakdown of common types and their uses:

SSRIs (Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors): These are first-line treatments for depression and anxiety. Prozac and Zoloft are well-known examples.

SNRIs (Serotonin-Norepinephrine Reuptake Inhibitors): Used for depression, chronic pain, and anxiety. Cymbalta is a popular option.

Mood Stabilizers: Often prescribed for bipolar disorder. Lithium and Lamictal are common choices.

Benzodiazepines: Effective for short-term anxiety relief. Xanax and Ativan fall into this category but should be used cautiously due to their addictive potential.

Antipsychotics: Used for conditions like schizophrenia or as adjuncts for severe depression. Abilify is one example.
